Zen and Kevin dig deep into the closet, dust off the old consoles and fire 'em up. As the familiar electro-primitive songs start playing, they invite you to take a trip down 8 Bit Memory Lane.
The show starts off, unfortunately, with some corrections and retractions. Our email inbox was overflowing with people calling us on the carpet for our mistakes and misstatements. Well, two people.
Tom Keck pointed out that we were incorrect in Episode 9 when we proclaimed Inglorious Basterds to be completely original, citing this old italian flick. Oh well.
We were further humbled when the director of Star Wait himself, Michael Rotman, emailed us and politely pointed out that we were wrong to say that his website, StarWait.com, was down. The site is up and running, so please go check it out. You can buy the DVD brand new, straight from him, on the site.
Our Good, Bad and Ugly segment follows, where we bemoan the demise of the Video Game Arcade. Kevin attempts to put Infocom in his Bad for going out of business and thus keeping him from ever playing Zork again, but Zen alerts him to This Web Site that allow you to play Zork, Hitchhiker's Guide and a plethora of other classic Text games online for free. We marvel at the ignorance of a British Mom who wonders why One Nintendo DS divided by Four unruly children equals mayhem. She blames "computer games." We blame her poor arithmetic. Finally, we talk about the upcoming release of Fat Princess. With all the hubbub surrounding the controversial release, Zen conducts the first ZAP show interview with the Manager of VGE (Video Game Emporium), located in the Flagstaff Mall.
The first half of the show concludes with a quiz, of course. Zen plays clips and segments of classic video game music and sound effects and then challenges Kevin to identify the source. Play along at home, you're sure to score better than Kevin did.

In the second half of the show, we get straight to the topic of classic video games. Zen is so stoked to be talking about the subject, he wore his lucky Mario "Know Your Mushrooms" T-shirt. The guys talk about Pong, the Atari 2600, the NES and Commodore 64. They wax nostalgic for all kinds of games, from Zork and Zelda to Where In The World is Carmen SanDiego.
It's hard to believe, when you look at today's controllers with their myriad buttons and sticks, that we ever played with anything so simple as the original Atari joystick. Our palms ache just remembering it. If you would like your palms to hurt also, Click Here to buy a USB replica to use on your PC games. You masochist.
The whole movie rocks, but it's really all about the Death Blossom:
Spotlight Store Item: Pay homage to the first real gaming computer and show off your true inner geek with the O.G. Original Geek T-Shirt. On the front is the geek equivalent of a lowrider, and on the back is some true Computer Club Cred: BASIC Programming!
We're happy to announce the winner of our Star Wait DVD contest: Jared Ivy of Santa Barbara California!
We pull out a couple of other names from the contest hat, and to thank them for taking our gaming survey, they can pick any prize from the Zen and Peace Show Prize Box. Congratulations to Tom Keck and to the anonymous survey-taker named awsummdude. Be sure to email us with your choice, guys!
